Sharing Growls With Tom Waits

I want to apologize to my over 10,000 followers for not posting in the last few days.  Things get quite hectic the week before your wedding.

Where It Will Take Place

Even though planning is quite time consuming (and at times stressful), I still found some way to fit in my need for picking.

While the future Mrs. was getting her final hair trial done, I slipped out.  Havre De Grace is a GORGEOUS town.
While I was not lucky with any vinyls at my first stop, I did come across this old 8mm camera.  Not sure if it works, but it’s only $24.00.  I passed on it this time, but won’t if it’s there next time around.
I later ran into this place.  I only walked in because I noticed a few vinyls in the window.  The selection was amazing, but unfortunately the prices were incredibly too high.  The owner just recently purchased a collection of 10,000 vinyls.  Over 100 boxes were stacked in the back.  The beauty of it all was he agreed to let me return at a later date and pick through a few of the unopened boxes with him to share with all of you.
Even though past experiences at pawn shops ended with incredibly odd looks when asking about vinyl, I had time to kill, so I figured why not try another one….
And thank God I did.  I stopped into the one type of store where I never have luck and came across an artist I never seem to find
This is the beauty of searching.  There really is not much more I can say about finding this, except it was worth walking into 10 different antique stores and walking out with nothing.  I paid $3.00 for this.  You can’t find this album in this condition anywhere for that price.
I finished the day with my handy sidekick and headed home to enjoy the spoils of the day.

Being Part of an 80’s Montage

I first found this on Gear Patrol.  Yesterday, I decided to give it a listen, and I immediately downloaded it from the site.  This may not be for everyone, but it’s definitely for me!

Hopefully, this does not ruin any musical integrity that I have gained by starting this blog…..however, we all have our weaknesses.

Both of these are mix tapes full of back to back to back 80’s (and some late 70’s) montage music.  It’s amazing how accomplished this makes you feel while driving your car.  Also, I am about 70% sure that simply listening to this music is the equivalent of a 24 hour workout, and increases the balance of your checking account by $1,000.00 daily.

For me, I was hooked just two minutes in when a song from one of my favorite 80’s movies came on.

Willie Hutch’s “The Glow” was the start to a PERFECT morning!  Go listen to this, do the same, and you may be fortunate enough to have the “glow” too.

Any Empty Wallet Compliments of Brohammas

I am still trying to figure out if Brohammas is a good or bad influence on my time and money.  While he introduced me to blogging and I absolutely love it, I was also introduced to a few addictions in the process (One of which is stat checking).

The other of which is numerous blogs or websites, like Gear Patrol, which fills its pages with gadgets that I shouldn’t even think of buying, but will eventually purchase.  The above turntable, priced at $499.00, is the perfect example.  Being that I am getting married in 9 days, I think I finally found the gift I want (I am supposed to get one too right?).  I’m going to have to plant the seed for this quickly.  Most likely a subtle message saying something like “This is what I want!”

Now, hopefully there will be money after this wedding, the most of which will go right back into recovering from all that was spent for the wedding.  However, if there is some left over, I will be purchasing these Phila Audio speakers from BDDW.  There is no pricing, which is never a good sign, but what can you do?

The vinyl I found last night at the local Goodwill, will sound great on this setup.  Great cover, but the vinyl needs some serious cleaning.  Quite a bit of surface noise.  As always though, can you pass something like this up for only $1.00?  Now if I could only find the other two items above in a thrift store somewhere.

Giving my 5 and 10 cents

Had a quick stop after a long day of work to the 5 and 10 near my place

I mainly go for vinyls..

but I usually find some pretty decent stuff here

Today gave a whole new meaning to “decent stuff” though…

I found this in a bookshelf tucked away in the corner all by its lonesome

Definitely too good to be true.  Opened it up, looked at the vinyl, looks (and sounds) PERFECT!  Best part of all, I only paid $10.00 for this thing.  Its never a bad time to add some blues to the collection.  Especially when its Abner Jay.

Messenger Bag vs. Man Purse

So what is it?  A “Messenger bag” or a “Man Purse”?  I have not spent countless hours researching this topic, but I do however notice the large amount of men calling what I think is a “Messenger Bag” a “Murse” (which by the way I think is even worse than wearing a man purse).

My current bag

The above is a “Messenger bag”.  I know it’s not leather or anything fancy, but this is the thing I carry around through the dirt and dust of flea markets to put my vinyl in.

So here is the question that comes up.  Why is it assumed that messenger bags are man purses?  Is it the fact that it only has one strap and is thrown over the shoulder?  Because I can think of something else this is worn over the shoulder…

So if it’s not the way it’s carried… it the contents?  Because my messenger bag can carry a pair of shoes and a change of gym clothes…
A purse usually carries a woman’s feminine products….my messenger bag is usually full of books and vinyls…
All of the above could fit into a gym bag as well….so if it’s not the contents or the way it is worn….I am confused as to how it would be considered a man purse….A “Handbag” or “Man Purse” seems to be categorized as a smaller alternative to a backpack, but does have some different styles.
A messenger bag is described as a sack (already manly) often used by bicycle messengers and have much wider and longer straps than a purse.  They are also called “carryalls”.
Messenger bag – probably guns, explosives, and intel on terrorists inside
Man Purse – Probably a wallet and……not explosives, guns, or terrorist intel inside.
Messenger Bag – Probably some ancient artifact that his life was put on the line for, and eventually won him the girl….in a weird accidental type of way.
So the question is this…..what makes it a man purse to you?

Bob Dylan Surprise

Nice for family to always think of you while they are out

Dylan’s second album.  The cover is incredibly beat up, but surprisingly the vinyl is in mint condition.  Found in a random thrift shop under a stack of Sports Illustrated magazines.  Only $3.00.  This blog is good luck!

The vinyl is not nearly in “mint” condition.

“Thank you for the vinyl” I said….”Oh, you’re welcome…it didn’t warp did it?”.  “Why would it have warped?”.  “Well, I left it on top of a box in the sun when I grocery shopped this morning.”  I went inside, looked at it again.  NOOOO!!!!!  Luckily, it still plays.  I just can’t put the cover on my turntable down.

A Drive Home With Sammy, Jerry, Chuck, and Barry

Made a few completely random stops on the way home and it resulted in a few great finds…

I have to be in a particular mood for Sammy, but when I’m in “that” mood, it hits the spot.  $0.50 at a thrift shop.  Doesn’t even look used…

Now, I have to admit, I’m not the biggest Grateful Dead fan….

but this was sitting in a box and the minute I saw it I could not get “Casey Jones” out of my head.  My collection needed some Grateful Dead anyway.

I Can’t even begin to tell you how much this excites me.  The album and the cover are in GREAT condition.  The best part of this all….$2.00!  Unbelievable!

It’s tough to pass up on a Barry White vinyl…

Definitely not his best album, but the vinyl was in great condition, and I’m always in the mood for Barry!
